1. Introduction

Briz (“Briz”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a location-based marketplace operated by Karobar Digital Pvt. Ltd., a company registered in Nepal (“the Company”). Briz connects customers who are looking for products (“Buyers”) with nearby sellers who can fulfil those requests (“Sellers”). Buyers and Sellers are together referred to as “users” or “you”.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Briz mobile application and related services (collectively, the “Platform”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. It applies to all users of the Platform.

By creating an account or using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Platform.

2. Who is responsible for your information

3. Information we collect

We collect information in three ways: information you give us, information we collect automatically, and information from third parties.

3.1 Information you provide to us

Account information. When you register, we collect your name, mobile phone number, and the role you use the Platform in (Buyer or Seller). You may also choose to provide a profile photo and email address.

Seller business information. If you register as a Seller, we collect your business or shop name, business category and the product categories or specialties you deal in, your shop address, business contact details, and photos of your shop or products that you choose to upload. You may also provide business registration or tax details if you choose to verify your business.

Request and listing content. When a Buyer posts a request, we collect the details of that request, including the product sought, descriptions, any photos uploaded, quantity, and urgency. When a Seller responds, we collect the content of the offer, including price, availability, and any notes or images.

Communications. The Platform includes an in-app chat feature that allows Buyers and Sellers to communicate to finalize a deal. We collect and store the messages, images, and other content exchanged through this chat (see Section 6 for why and for how long).

Support and feedback. If you contact our support team, respond to surveys, leave ratings or reviews, or report another user, we collect the information you share in those interactions.

3.2 Information we collect automatically

Precise location data. Briz is a location-based service. With your permission, we collect precise GPS location data from your device in order to match Buyers with nearby Sellers and to show relevant requests and offers. You can control location permissions through your device settings (see Section 8). If you disable precise location, core features of the Platform may not work as intended.

Device and technical information. We collect information about the device and software you use to access the Platform, such as device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers, app version, language settings, and mobile network information.

Usage information. We collect information about how you interact with the Platform, such as the requests you post or respond to, features you use, pages you view, search terms, time and duration of activity, and other interaction logs.

Cookies and similar technologies. We and our service providers may use cookies, software development kits (SDKs), and similar technologies to operate the Platform, remember your preferences, and understand usage. You can manage some of these through your device or browser settings.

3.3 Information from third parties

We may receive information about you from:

  • Affiliated services. If you access Briz using an account or credentials from an affiliated service operated by the Company, we may receive your registration details to streamline your onboarding, with your consent.
  • Service providers. Analytics, hosting, communications (such as SMS or push notification providers), and similar vendors that help us run the Platform.

4. How we use your information

We use your information for the following purposes:

To provide the core service. To create and manage your account, match Buyers with nearby Sellers, display requests and offers, enable in-app chat, and otherwise operate the marketplace.

To use location for matching. To determine which Sellers are near a Buyer’s request and which requests are relevant to a Seller, and to display approximate distance information.

To facilitate communication. To enable, deliver, and store in-app messages between Buyers and Sellers.

To improve and develop the Platform. To understand how the Platform is used, troubleshoot problems, develop new features, and improve matching quality and user experience.

To maintain trust and safety. To verify accounts, detect and prevent fraud, misuse, spam, false availability claims, or abuse, to enforce our terms, and to resolve disputes between users.

To communicate with you. To send service-related notifications (such as new offers, messages, or account alerts) and, where permitted, updates and marketing about Briz. You can opt out of marketing communications at any time (see Section 8).

To comply with law. To meet legal and regulatory obligations and to respond to lawful requests from authorities.

5. Legal bases for processing

We process your personal information where:

  • it is necessary to provide the services you have requested and to perform our agreement with you;
  • you have given consent (for example, for precise location access or marketing communications), which you may withdraw at any time;
  • it is necessary for our legitimate interests in operating, improving, and securing the Platform, provided these do not override your rights; or
  • it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

Where the law requires your consent — including for the collection of sensitive personal information such as precise location under the Individual Privacy Act, 2075 — we will obtain it before collecting or processing that information.

6. In-app chat and communications

Because Buyers and Sellers transact with people they meet through the Platform, the in-app chat is an important trust and safety feature. We store chat content for the following reasons:

  • to deliver messages reliably and let you access your conversation history;
  • to investigate reports, resolve disputes, and verify what was agreed between a Buyer and a Seller; and
  • to detect and prevent fraud, harassment, prohibited transactions, and other misuse.

We do not sell the content of your chats. Access to chat content by our staff is restricted and occurs only where necessary for the purposes above, for safety, or where required by law.

Please remember that information you voluntarily share with another user — including your phone number, address, or other contact details — is shared at your own discretion, and we cannot control how the other party uses information you choose to give them directly.

7. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below.

Between users, to enable transactions. When a Buyer posts a request, relevant nearby Sellers see the request details and the Buyer’s general location or area. When a Seller makes an offer, the Buyer sees the Seller’s profile, business information, and offer. When the two parties chat, they see the information each chooses to share. Approximate location and distance may be shown to facilitate matching; we aim to limit the precision of location shared with other users to what is needed for the service.

With service providers. We share information with vendors who perform services on our behalf — such as cloud hosting, analytics, customer support tools, and SMS or push-notification delivery — under contracts that require them to protect your information and use it only for the services they provide to us.

With affiliated companies. We may share information within the Company’s group of affiliated entities to operate, support, and improve the Platform, consistent with this Policy.

For legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information where we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with applicable law, a court order, or a lawful request by a public authority; to enforce our terms; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Briz, our users, or the public; or to detect and address fraud or security issues.

In a business transfer. If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy or a successor policy with equivalent protections.

8. Your choices and rights

Subject to applicable law, including the Individual Privacy Act, 2075, you have the following choices and rights regarding your information:

Access and correction. You can access and update most of your account and profile information directly in the app. You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct information that is inaccurate.

Location permissions. You can enable or disable precise location access at any time through your device settings. Disabling it may limit or prevent core features from working.

Marketing communications. You can opt out of promotional messages by following the unsubscribe instructions in those messages or adjusting your notification settings. You will still receive essential service-related communications.

Deletion. You may request that we delete your account and associated personal information. We will honour such requests subject to legal retention requirements and legitimate needs such as resolving disputes, preventing fraud, or enforcing our terms (see Section 10).

Withdrawing consent. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. This will not affect processing carried out before withdrawal.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 15. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.

9. Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. These include access controls, encryption in transit, restricted internal access, and monitoring. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for the activity that occurs under your account.

10. How long we keep your information

We retain your information for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Platform. After account closure, we may retain certain information where necessary to:

  • comply with legal, tax, or regulatory obligations;
  • resolve disputes and enforce our agreements;
  • prevent fraud and abuse; and
  • maintain the integrity of transaction and safety records.

When information is no longer needed for these purposes, we delete it or anonymise it so it can no longer be associated with you.

11. Children’s privacy

The Platform is not intended for individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without appropriate consent, we will take steps to delete it. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

12. International data transfers

We primarily store and process information on servers that may be located in Nepal or in other countries through our cloud and service providers. Where information is transferred outside Nepal, we take steps intended to ensure it remains protected consistent with this Policy and applicable law.

13. Third-party links and services

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites or services, or allow Sellers to share external store links. This Policy does not apply to those third parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of services we do not operate, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.

14. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the Platform or by other appropriate means and update the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the Platform after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.

This Privacy Policy is provided in English. If we publish translated versions and there is any conflict, the English version shall prevail to the extent permitted by law.
